Award-winning perfumer Azzi Glasser talks to Arabella

Make 2017 the year you discover your own scent signature; award-winning perfume designer Azzi Glasser talks to Arabella about which of her ground breaking fragrances you should take on holiday.

When it comes to creating an atmosphere or triggering an emotion, scents are highly personal and certain aromas can conjure up a memory or experience for an individual like nothing else. A winter holiday is brought to the forefront of your mind with the smell of frost on the ground, just as a summer one can be remembered by catching a hint of sunscreen you used whilst you lay basking on the beach. And just as seasons or places can be evoked by a single scent, so too should you take the time to identify what scent you want as your own, one that perfectly encapsulates the uniqueness that is you.

Leading perfume designer, Azzi Glasser, specialises in creating fragrances for the worlds top fashion designers, beauty brands, Hollywood actors, musicians and artists. Azzi has a client portfolio like no other, including   stars such as Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Noomi Rapace and Helena Bonham Carter. Her realisation that the desire to wear a specific fragrance that could relate to you both emotionally and personally was growing amongst consumers, and led her to launch her debut collection, The Perfumer’s Story by Azzi in 2015. This unique collection of men’s, women’s and unisex fragrances, each tailored to the individual, debuted at Harvey Nichols and have since gone on to be sold additionally in The Conran Shop, Net-A-Porter, Liberty and Fortnum & Mason.

We were lucky enough to speak to the acclaimed perfume designer, to get some inspiration for fragrances to accompany us on our travels into the New Year and beyond.

Arabella London: Whilst going on holiday is always a treat, frequent travelling can sometimes take it toll. We suggest the

One80 bikini top as the perfect lightly padded undergarment for the journey - as a substitute to an uncomfortable underwired bra. Is there a scent you’d recommend to get us through those hours spent in the department lounge and on the plane?

Azzi Glasser: For a jet-setting lifestyle, I would always recommend Amber Molecule from The Perfumer’s Story by Azzi. This scent is so warm and comforting and feels like wrapping yourself in cashmere, making it perfect for helping you through a long journey. I would even recommend spraying this scent on your pillow to sooth a weary traveller and combat jet lag.

AL: And upon arrival at our destination, what would you suggest to make sure we’re completely in the holiday mood?

AG: Whilst on holiday I would recommend our unisex scent ‘C’. This perfume creates a sense of confidence and spirited energy, which becomes an attractant to those around you. This is due to the effect of this particular molecule formulation and the scent will adapt and change depending on the heat of your skin.

In this way, the scent not only transcends seasons but can also be worn day or night and makes for light packing too as it is a traveller’s all rounder - much like our Contour Swimsuit which can take you seamlessly from beach to bar.

AL: The motivation behind your perfumes is the idea of individually tailored and bespoke fragrances. How can we adapt our holiday spaces, such as our room, so that they truly feel like ours while we’re away from home?

AG: To scent the hotel room I would choose one of my candle scents, Fever 54 or Black Moss. With all of our candles, the scents are perfectly tailored to match the scent personality to the living space. Each candle emits specific moods of warmth, richness or sheer decadence, transforming each room with a fresh identity and ambiance.

In Fever 54, the notes of rose de mai, oudh and saffron bring an enveloping calm to any interior space. Black Moss, with its earthy accords of patchouli and musk, combined with notes of smokey oudh, creates a warm, welcoming and long-lasting room scent.

AL: Thank you very much for sharing all that holiday fragrance inspiration with us Azzi. We look forward to creating our own bespoke scent signature for our next trip away.
